Holmgaard is located 800 m from the border to Germany and about 8 km from the sleepy little town Tønder.
From here you can explore the regoin and experience its charme. Right in front of you, there are fields, forest, meadows, dykes and little sandy roads to cross on a excursion. Its possible to observe wild animals and birds or watch the cattle and the humans doing their dayly work in fhe field.
Fx the Nolde museum is just across the border. And other museums are in Tønder city.
You can have fun at the horse-riding competitions in many of the local villages and visit Danfoss Universe or Sommerland Syd, both about 20 min/ an hour away.
Sønder- and Grønåen are local rivers, inviting to go canoeing. Trips can last one day or more and you can paddle all way to the lock in Højer.
There are also good fishing possibilities.
Every year, at the last weekend of August, the high life enters Tønder and the streets will be filled with vagabonds, musicians and guests from all over the world. The Tønder Festival will offer concerts in many locations during 4 days.
